A Day at the Races

There is nothing like the excitement of a race meeting.The fun of betting,the sound of the horses thundering past and the characters who attend these events make great scenes for paintings. My grandmother owned a bookmakers premises next door to her corner shop in Northampton. She would totter round in her slippers and place bets for me--I was too young- she was quite an expert on form--I often had extra pocket money.
