GRADUATION DAY, CAMBRIDGE, UK update 2020

Cambridge  University students follow an ancient tradition of  marching  through the streets of Cambridge accompanied by their college tutors on Graduation Day .The traffic stops and the students go to  the Senate building where the graduation ceremony is conducted in Latin with their supporters,many of them proud parents, watching.

The students wear black gowns with white fur hoods and mortar boards ( known as a square).This painting shows a procession in Bridge Street near Magdalene College.

The ceremony is followed by a party in the students'college.

In this terrible year of Covid 19 I am sorry that students will miss the traditional graduation day.
In five years time you will qualify for an M.A.,no exams involved, and will be able to have a traditional ceremony then.Hopefully you will all be earning loads of money and can travel business class, stay in a nice hotel and arrange to receive this award with some of your old college friends.
